Philosophically Speaking

Philosophy is one of the most abstract disciplines in the professional world. There are many definitions for the word philosophy and even more interpretations of it. Basically it is a way to study and understand the human view of existence, reality and knowledge.

Taking the time to study and obtain a philosophy degree gives you a broad perspective on the world and all the individuals it holds. You are able to look for the most rational answers to the deepest questions and analyze the situation of the world from the perspective of viewer rather than participant.

Brown University: Philosophy Degree

Brown University has its philosophy program broken into several different concentrations because the field is so vast. The Standard Concentration holds courses in ancient philosophy, logic, early modern philosophy, ethics and metaphysics.

The Ethics and Political Concentration adds higher courses in political philosophy and ethics. The Logic and Philosophy of Science Concentration has a course in epistemology, the philosophy of science and additional mathematics and science courses.

The concentrations allow students to focus on areas of philosophy that interest them so that they will spend more time studying and understanding their concentration.

Drew University: Philosophy Degree

The philosophy degree program at Drew University is a well rounded program that includes the history of philosophy, its historical figures, metaphysics, epistemology, and ethics.

Higher level courses allow the student to study non-traditional philosophical topics that include philosophy of law, origins of analytic philosophy, existentialism and philosophy of psychology. While the degree is basically a liberal arts base, philosophy gives the students a unique perspective on life and the ability to think creatively and logically.

Calvin College: Philosophy Degree

The philosophy faculty members at Calvin College believe that philosophy is a fundamental set of beliefs, both basic and abstract. With this in mind their students begin their philosophy degree program with the basic disciplines of logic, ethics, aesthetics, metaphysics and epistemology.

Further studies reveal philosophy to be a logical, analytical and critical examination of the beliefs of philosophy and those we hold in our lives.
