Photography Degree- Imaging Education

Photography is an art form in and of itself. Understanding the complexities of the subject, background, lighting and angles takes a great deal of study and skill.

Some people naturally sense the right angle for a shot or can spot the most beautiful scenes for black and white photography. Even with this knowledge and a great camera, there is a great deal to learn about the technological aspects of photography and how to apply it to a fulfilling career.

Rhode Island School of Design: Photography Degree

In the Rhode Island School of Design, the students are encouraged to follow their personal creativity in pursuing a photography degree. They are taught the techniques needed to properly take photographs in a variety of different lighting styles, motion shots and angles.

Students also learn to work with various camera types, photography technology and computer programs as well as developing their own photographs. There are also courses on the history of photography, emerging technology and techniques.

While students are encouraged to be creative with their work, they are always supported by experienced faculty members.

Western Washington University: Photography Degree

The Bachelor of Arts in Art-Studio program is an umbrella group that includes a photography based degree program. This program includes many different types of physical art forms such as painting and printmaking. You can choose to focus on any of the art forms, including photography, as a concentration.

The photography program includes a study of the history of photography, usage of the newest technological innovations and techniques in photography. Students meet with their faculty advisor after their second year to discuss the direction of their degree program and at that point choose a concentration.

College of Visual Arts: Photography Degree

The photography degree program at College of Visual Arts takes a hands-on approach to their art. In early classes the students learn darkroom techniques, black and white and color, and photograph manipulation to produce the best images.

The advanced courses teach lighting strategies, metering, conceptual issues and film choices. This program is well rounded but focused on photography as an art form, historical time piece and career path.
