Work in Art

When your artistic talents lead you to an Art degree you may wonder what career fields are available with such a degree. Whether your focus is on visual arts, physical arts, media arts or literary art there are many career options ahead of you. Many Fine Arts programs incorporate a number of art types with a liberal arts program to provide their students with a solid base for a career that stems from their art rather than simply using it.

Artist

People who simply create original works of art -- such as painting, sculptures and photographs – are known as artists. The works of art they create are for profit and often used as a small business enterprise. If the artist is not self employed, they create original works of art for a company or buyer.

Graphic Designer

Graphic designers use their art skills to create works for the media. This can include film, television, internet, publishing and advertisement. Their art is used to convey information for marketing or entertainment.

Art Historian

When your art interest is focused on the history of art and the way it is conveyed through the years, you may want to take on a career as an Art Historian. The job title alone can be used in a variety of settings including galleries, museums and university instruction.

Curator

A museum curator needs to have the knowledge acquired through an Art degree to successfully handle the duties of managing an art museum. This will include the history of the works, their style and the history of the artists.
