Pediatric nursing is one of those specialized medical care where nurses are particularly trained for taking care of children's medical need. Pediatric nurses are engaged in services like providing medical attention to children, collecting blood, urine and stool samples, starting IVs and noticing vital signs in children under medical care. While most of the nurses work in hospitals, a few of them work with pediatricians and private clinics. With medical advancements pediatric medical care has improved to a great extent.

In addition to taking care of the physical well being of the patients, pediatric nurses also care for the mental and emotional strength of the young ones. Pediatric Nursing in Hospitals

Those interested in pediatric nursing programs should have a Bachelors of Science Degree in Nursing. After completing this four year course, they are bound to take up practical training designed to teach the way to deal with children under medical care and their family. The practical training will take another two years to complete. These nurses also complete their Certified Pediatric Nurse (CPN), Pediatric Advanced Life Support, Basic Trauma Life Support, Pediatric Basic Trauma Life Support and Advanced Cardiac Life Support. Once both theoretical and practical training are completed they are ready to take up a real time job with Hospitals or Clinics as the case may be.

The work timings of pediatric nurses vary depending upon the hospital they are working for. The real test of the job is about the emotional stress they are likely to undergo during the medical care they extend to young patients. In most cases pediatric nurses become so emotionally attached to children admitted in the hospital that they sometime they might even fail to do their duty. The training is all about how to detach work and emotional attachment. It is more of a serious circumstance in cases where the child is a terminally ill patient.
