Online teaching jobs are not for everyone. If you don’t have what it takes to be an online instructor you could fail miserably at teaching in an online environment. Your online teaching success lies with the success of your students. Teaching students in an online environment can be very challenging because it is very different from face-to-face interaction. Maybe this is why I don’t want to be an online teacher.

However, for some people, online teaching careers can be a natural and wonderful experience. With the right training and knowledge, I’m sure that teaching online can be just as rewarding as teaching the traditional way. But before committing to an online teaching career, it is helpful if you learn about some of what’s involved with online teaching jobs.

• Become familiar with the online classroom environment before taking on the role of teaching online. Not everyone is comfortable teaching in an online setting, so make sure this is something that you can handle and are comfortable with before you commit to teaching an online classroom or pursue a teaching career with an online degree.
• As an online instructor, you will be helping many students from all walks of life. If you like to help others, online teaching opportunities are for delivering all types of lessons to busy working moms and dads, the elderly, people in remote locations, the disabled and many others that have restricted access to traditional learning or prefer this method of learning for whatever reasons.
• The freedom to work from home and the flexibility that online teaching jobs offer are great benefits to pursuing a teaching career online or even an online degree in education.
• Give each student the individualized care and attention they deserve. If you neglect to pay attention to students’ needs, you will have a high drop-out rate which can affect your online teaching experience.
• If you begin an online class without giving students a course syllabus, an introduction to the online program or are not prepared, these things can also affect your online teaching experience. Not being prepared is not the best way to begin a new online class.
• Students that are not disciplined and are easily distracted will easily get bored with online learning. Make sure you keep the online pace moving, keep it fun and interactive. Try to avoid too much text work. Include video clips, animations and interesting anecdotes in your lessons to keep students attention and also to make your online teaching experience a positive one. Also make sure students know what is expected of them in an online degree program or online course.

Online teaching jobs involve a lot of work and can be challenging at times. However, it can also be a rewarding and lucrative career if you don’t mind teaching in an online setting. Many students believe that online education is a push over. On the contrary, many students find the format, though very convenient, very difficult. Online education requires and teaches students skills of planning, organization and responsibility. Therefore, once you have started to fall outside of these requirements, you can start looking out for signs of being a failing online student.

Online students can use various measuring sticks to keep them inline. If these criteria are set in the negative, they can be easily identified and dealt with accordingly. Some of the signs they can lookout for as being those of failing online students include:

1. Complaining about the course size

Students who do not succeed with online education constantly believe the course work is too much. They think that e- learning should be a cakewalk, because of the freedom associated with it. Therefore, teachers should just relax and give them a free ride.

2. Always disagreeing with teachers comments

Online teachers are trained in the science of student analysis. Failing student always have difficulties accepting the criticisms of their online teacher. Actually, some may feel they are being preyed upon.

3. Feeling entitled to a passing grade

The attitude of diploma mills have resulted in many online students believing that their doctors owe them a passing grade. Therefore, when they attend an accredited online college and are met with serious teachers, they take offense to real coursework assessments.

4. Do not have enough time to study

Online education requires students to organize their study time and take advantage of the freedom the course offers. However, you fail at achieving this goal; students will always be behind in their course work resulting in them being ill prepared for examinations. Students who suffer from this problem are always heard complaining that they do not have enough time to prepare for their exams.

5. Making excuses about failing exams

Failing online students always have an excuse for failing exams. Although they have the opportunity to review online classes as much they want, they still complain that the contents of the exams were not discussed in the class.

6. Classes are always boring

Not all online lecturers will be to your liking. Some are charismatic and yes, they should try to make their lectures interesting. However, if this is not the case, it still does not give students the green light to treat the course in a lackadaisical manner. The onus is on the student to learn, so the excuse of online classes being boring is not an excuse for failure. Students who constantly complain about boring classes are surely on their way to failure.

7. Unable to reproduce information in exams

Many students say that their reason for failure in online exams is due to their inability to reproduce the material studied during exams. But what really causes this? Many students wait until the last minute before they start studying. As a result, the information is cemented in their memory.

8. Teachers expect too much from me

Some students think that some online teachers expect too much of them and their input should be less. Therefore, when they are not being spoon fed, they end up failing their course.8.
