What is the Financial Cost of an Online Nursing Degree?

If you are interested in pursuing an online nursing degree, you can opt for an accredited online degree school. The costs however vary between different online nursing schools. Most of the accredited online nursing schools are charged by credit and they charge anywhere between $100 and $300 per credit.

Financial Cost for an Online Nursing Degree Program

Unlike traditional nursing programs, online nursing degrees cost much lesser as you need not pay out-of-station tuition fees. However, you might have to pay nominal tuition fees for various online programs which can include additional expenditure like textbook fees, registration fees, enrollment fees and other fees associated with applications and the registration process. All these fees however, are dependent on the school you have chosen as well as the academic level.

If you want to opt for a financial aid, most of the online nursing schools offer different types of financial aid assistance which you can qualify for. You can discuss with the financial aid consultations and avail loans or grants for which you are eligible. Apart from these, owing to the growing demand for qualified nurses, many federal loan forgiveness programs are also offered like the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services which offers a nursing education loan repayment programs.

Earning Capability for Online Nursing Degree Graduates

You can earn nursing degree online at various levels ranging from LPN nursing degree online to much advanced nursing degrees. Each online nursing degree program has different requirements with respect to credits with some requiring a minimum of 30 credits for an associate degree. However, some online nursing schools require about 90 to 120 credit hours or more for a bachelor degree. This results in a wide difference in costs for earning a nursing degree online.

There are some online nursing degree programs which are costly. However, owing to the great demand for qualified nurses in the healthcare sector, you are likely to get good job opportunities with good salaries. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the median annual wages of registered nurses in 2008 was $62,450, with the RNs earning between $51,640 and $76,570 annually.
