By enrolling in an online school, you can study at your own pace. This is not possible in a traditional classroom where everything is done on a deadline. Also, when you enroll in an online school you get plenty of choices for subjects.

Tuition Rates

Online schools are tailor made for individuals who cannot afford the high tuition rates of traditional colleges and universities. If you are looking for easy approval for grants and scholarships, you may want to enroll in an online school.

Earn a Degree Quickly

If your main objective is to earn degree quickly to get a promotion in your current job or increase your educational qualification, you need to enroll in an online school. Unlike traditional colleges and universities where there is a pre-set time for degree completion, in an online environment you get the opportunity to earn your degree quickly through accelerated degree programs.

Low Student-Faculty Ratio

You will be able to understand concepts much more quickly when the student-faculty ratio is low. You will find low student-faculty ratios in the majority of online schools, which is missing in traditional colleges and universities.

Detailed Course Structure

When you enroll in an online school, you increase your chances of getting comprehensive knowledge out of the program. The course structure of an online degree program is designed to ensure that you do not miss any of the important topics. Further, the course structure is set by industry experts who know what kinds of topics can be advantageous for the students.

Final Examination

In an online school, there is no pressure on you in terms of studies. It is totally your decision when you want to take exams (within a set time frame of course). You also have the option of studying according to you own schedule.

Practical Training

When you take admission in an online school, you get knowledge of theoretical concepts and practical training is imparted on you. Practical training can play a vital part in making sure that you do not face any problem in finding a job.

Faculty

The teaching in an online school is conducted by experienced and highly qualified faculty. This means that you are going to learn things much better.

I am a student of online education and I also work in educational research. I appreciate your article and sharing the benefits of an online education. I am just currently also wanting to help spread the fact that online education IS the future of education and it is NOT limited to higher level ed. More and more middle & high school online schools are popping up daily. As you mentioned the convenience factor with more active lives, is a big draw for this type of education. I know we are considering it for our family, as we are trying to give our children more of the opportunities we feel would benefit them. I encourage you to check out http://www.stmarksacademy.net/befree/ for your family or children. It is an academy that has grabbed my eye and stands above many of the others we have looked into. The instructional staff is held to a HIGH standard as well as being available to students 24-7. I just wanted to share that online education is NOT limited to job training, certifications, or college level education. Thank so much!

    Thanks, Michele,
I’m in Walden myself, but I have to agree with many people who oppose online education – it’s far less challenging than U of WI, even the small college I went to that accepts low GPA. I went smoothly from getting mostly Cs and Ds to straight As in Walden. Don’t kid yourself – there’s a reason SNL is making fun of online education, as are countless others.

But to say that many employers will automatically trash a resume with an online degree on it, I will put all my money on being false. Every online schools is accredited one way or other. My mom’s friend finished Phoenix and now works a very decent job, while my mom lost hers.

But – I very-very strongly oppose high school education online… I met people who were home schooled and didn’t go to high school – it felt like they were kept in a closet for years, they don’t even act their age. I’m sorry, but it’s a lot more important for a teenager to learn to ‘deal’ with other teenagers at that sensitive age, than learn school subjects!
Unless you live in a very dangerous neighborhood, or who knows what – please think 2, 3 times before enrolling your kid in online high school.

@ Sam: I appreciate your comments on Online Education sector especially when you yourself is an Online Student. I understand your concerns and job challenges too, but it is not like students who have degrees online are a failure otherwise. These days course structure of online degree programs is well structured and in lieu with open job markets. You will come across many employees who were or are online students. Make sure to go for an accredited online college/university to pursue your degree.
    - Good Luck!
