Application essays are very important during college admission. So, special care has to be taken when writing college application essays. A poorly written essay may terminate the admission potential of a stellar student. Exceptional college application essays can help students who have marginal scores enter their dream colleges.

Tips for College Application Essays

    1. Avoiding the List - Students try to put all their accomplishments and activities in their application essays. These essays read like a tedious list and the admissions board will be less interested in reading them. Students must include their achievements and activities in the specified area.

    2. Narrow your Personal Focus – When writing the college application essay, students must prove their essay a single point or thesis. The reader must understand their main ideas and the ideas should flow from the beginning to the end.

    3. Comprehensiveness - Students must remember that when they are writing a college application essay, it must not be too comprehensive. Comprehensive essays usually end up with diverted ideas and do not relate to the main idea. The essay must reflect who you are and not what your special achievements are.

    4. Prove Your Essay - College application essays must develop the main idea with clear and specific facts, examples, events, quotations and reasons. There is a big difference between simply stating a point of view and describing an idea in details. Use of specific examples from real life that allow for the essay to be appealing.

    5. Innovative Idea – The admissions authority reads hundreds of essays with common subjects. So, you must understand that your essay has to be unique and interesting. Do not be too careerist or materialistic on your essay. Judge your essay from every angle and see whether it stand on its own as unique.

    6. Individual Essays – Students have the tendency to submit a single essay for every college they are applying. This tendency reduces the chance of scoring higher because there may be some statements that do not match with different colleges’ criteria. This can ultimately ruin the chances of getting admission to colleges.

    7. Limited Review - Before submitting your essay, one of the most important points you must remember is to get a review of your essay by an efficient person. Remember that too much feedback and different opinions may diminish the value of an already well-written essay.

    8. Mechanisms – When writing a college application essay, students must pay attention to grammatical errors, errors of punctuation and spacing, spelling mistakes, etc. Error in these fields will diminish the quality of the essay and may distract from the meaning, limiting chances for admission.

    2. Analyze their audience.
    3. Research their topic.
    4. Follow the proper format for their persuasive essay.
